Certainty

Hine Solicitors registers your will on Certainty, the National Will Register, free of charge, helping your loved ones trace it when they need to.

Certainty is the National Will Register and will search service, used by the legal profession, the public, charities and financial institutions to register and search for Wills.

If you instruct us to draft your Will, we will register it on Certainty free of charge, if you are happy for us to do so. Certainty retains your name and the name of the firm holding your Will. No information about the content of your Will is held or disclosed by Certainty.

If you have a concern that your Will is not currently up to date, contact a member of our team.

Why register your Will?

One of the worries people sometimes raise with us when drafting their Wills is whether registering it means the contents become public. It does not. Certainty records only that we hold your Will. No one at Certainty sees it. What registration does is ensure that when the time comes, your Will can be found.

In a recent survey, 67% of people did not know where to find their parents’ Wills. Tens of thousands of estates fall into intestacy each year as a result, which can cause emotional and financial turmoil for loved ones. Changing circumstances, moving to another area or simply the passage of time can make it difficult for beneficiaries to locate a Will. Registering yours ensures that solicitors across the country can log its existence in a central place, so it is easily traceable and not overlooked.

How the process works:

– The registry records that we hold your Will. No one at Certainty sees it. – Following your death, the registry gives us details about anyone who is legitimately looking for your Will. – We answer the query if it is legitimate. If not, we ignore it, protecting both your privacy and your beneficiaries.

Regularly reviewing your Will and having it registered is one of the most important things you can do for your loved ones.
