IPP Prisoners

Hine Solicitors helps IPP prisoners and their families prepare for parole hearings, presenting the strongest possible case for release from custody.

Even though the Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) sentence has been abolished, prisoners previously sentenced under this legislation still continue to be subject to the original sentence.

If you have a family member who wants to make a strong case with the Parole Board it’s important that they know how to prepare themselves as well as their case. Being able to present themselves well and make a positive impression will help their case, and our experts can advise on the best way to do this.

For the best chance of gaining their freedom they can rely on our dedicated specialists who can prepare cases for release or progression. You can be confident that our experience with Parole Board Hearings will ensure you have the best possible representation.

The statistics

There are more than 5000 IPPs, more than 3500 of these prisoners are being held behind bars long after their tariff expiry date. These prisoners have to await release until the Parole Board sanctions it. Currently the Parole Board is only releasing about 400 IPP prisoners a year.

Preparing for Parole Review

Each prisoner will need to prepare written representations and may need to bring independent experts in to speak on their behalf. This requires expert help and our specialist team will visit the prisoner to help them to prepare their written representations and advise on any assessments needed. Your case will be allocated to a member of our specialist team who will visit you before any hearing and represent you at the hearing itself.
